Celebrating Our Charlotte Safety Day 2018

As the lights came on and the banquet room at the Sheraton Hotel bustled with field employees, Charlotte Safety Day 2018 got under way. You could feel the energy level in the room as all participants—including the instructors—were charged with a sense of something very different and very significant.

The March 16 event was held not only to provide safety knowledge and awareness but also to showcase camaraderie and appreciation for the great job the field does in daily incident prevention. Groups of field employees rotated through different stations hearing about various topics, including Confined Spaces, Planning for Emerging Risks, Gang Box Organization, Four-Step Method, Risk Identification and Distracted Driving. Each of the sessions ran 25 minutes.

Feedback from surveys and random inquiries shows that the event went over successfully and with great praise. Craft 2 Foreman Rick Sousa said, “I liked that there were different people under different roles giving different perspectives.” This will continue to be a yearly event for the Charlotte team, if not a bi-annual event. And as you read this article, Atlanta Safety Day has recently been held as well.

Our journey in safety excellence continues every day on the jobsites. This day—Safety Day—was an opportunity for many members of our field team to come together, something that is not the norm. Sure, we do many classroom training sessions, but with this type of event, we can create and harness a different level of participation and involvement, thanks to those from all walks who attended. Yes, prizes were given away, but the ultimate take-away is the show of support to our most valuable asset: our employees.

Way to go, Charlotte field team!
