McKenney’s implemented a broad-based energy-savings initiative at an educational institution in suburban Georgia. The retrofit focused on four of the university’s largest buildings.
The Challenge
The McKenney’s team upgraded lighting in two gymnasiums, replaced 16 HVAC systems, added four air-side economizers, and designed and installed a Tridium® NiagaraAX web-based control system to integrate with an existing Siemens® control system. Much of the work took place in less than a month, resulting in a compressed schedule. Financing options were provided but the university opted for self-funding.
The Solution
To meet the timeline, McKenney’s pre-planned the entire project and prefabricated components for the HVAC installation. Materials and equipment were also staged on-site to save time. The web-based controls included McKenney’s bdoc® ValidateTM online energy management application to measure energy cost, consumption and carbon footprint.
The Results
The retrofit, installation and controls implementation were completed on time and on budget. Going forward, the university will be able to track its energy savings through bdoc Validate.
