Staying Cool Under Pressure

McKenney’s installed a complex HVAC system at the new Emory Musculoskeletal Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.

THE CHALLENGE

The McKenney’s team had to fast track the HVAC and plumbing installation for a 7-story, 190,000-square- foot healthcare institute. The construction team required conditioned air early—six months after rough-in began. In addition, the building had a variety of specialty spaces including operating, exam testing rooms, a research lab and a café.

THE SOLUTION

The McKenney’s team began planning early to allow time for identifying constraints and providing solutions to the project’s challenges. The team took the lead on scheduling and driving production, working with the drywall contractor and electricians on the workflow and sequence. The McKenney’s team also ensured the controls subcontractor’s work was functioning to meet the conditioned air goals. To accommodate the quick timeline, the team identified milestones to achieve and communicated plans continuously.

THE RESULTS

McKenney’s is on track to finish the high-quality project on time and help Emory Musculoskeletal Institute realize its mission to serve humanity by integrating education, discovery and healthcare delivery.
