Experiences

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport TCUP Boilers

McKenney’s partnered with McCarthy and F&S Mechanical to deliver a major upgrade to the central boiler plant at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The project replaced three aging hot water boilers with six new Cleaver-Brooks units capable of taking in both natural gas and jet fuel—a first-of-its-kind solution for McKenney’s.

As part of the scope, McKenney’s Controls team furnished new controls for the Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) powering the plant’s pump system, which included six primary pumps, four secondary pumps supplying Concourses A through D, and tertiary pumps supporting Concourse T’s security, landside, and atrium zones. The team also delivered, programmed, and commissioned an IP-based open protocol Building Automation System (BAS), along with an upgraded Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the boiler plant. The new interface provides real-time monitoring of supply and return temperatures, fuel consumption, CO2 levels, and other critical metrics—bringing next-level visibility and control to one of the world’s busiest airports. The entire project was executed on-time within a six-month schedule.
