Creating a Showstopper in Charlotte

McKenney’s installed mechanical systems at an office building in downtown Charlotte.

THE CHALLENGE

The McKenney’s team worked with the general contractor and a team of subs to bring a signature high-rise office building—with its unique design, unbeatable location and high-profile neighbors—to life. The key mechanical equipment needed to be installed towards the end of construction which meant the schedule would be tight, startup and commissioning would need to be condensed and the team needed to be creative about finding a solution to the compacted timeline. In addition, equipment issues impacted the ability to fly materials to various floors and the team was spread throughout the building, hampering workflow and negatively impacting overall schedule control.

THE SOLUTION

Extensive planning, sequencing of the work and coordinating with the controls contractor put the project schedule back on track and the team moved towards startup and commissioning within the tight timeline. Finally, a finishing crew tied up loose ends after installation.

THE RESULTS

The project was delivered on time—allowing the owners to lease space on schedule.
