Spartanburg Regional Health System is a county-owned health system with more than 40 facilities serving residents in South Carolina’s Upstate area. The goal of the Target 2005 expansion was to add a new 79,000-square-foot emergency department and 145,000 square feet of shell space for future operating rooms, intensive care units, and patient rooms to accommodate increasing demand in a growing community.
The project’s scope included installation of plumbing and medical gas outlets, a 1,250-ton expansion
of the campus chilled-water systems, relocation of existing steam plant components, installation of new utility piping in existing underground tunnel, and the addition of 84,000 cubic feet of new air-handling unit capacity with 240 zones.
The project was successfully delivered on time and below guaranteed maximum price, with minimal
disruption to hospital operations and consistent protection of patient safety.
